| Cortina acquires ImmenStar to move into PONs.

| Cortina Systems Inc. has bid its way into passive-optical-networking markets with the acquisition of ImmenStar Inc. for undisclosed terms. Founded in May 2004, ImmenStar develops chips for both Gigabit/broadband PONs and Ethernet PONs. Cortina¡¦s chair said ImmenStar developed a unique quality-of-service and bandwidth management architecture in its MuLAN EPON chip set that has been field proven in several deployments in Asia. A dual-mode EPON/GPON chip set, Turandot, is under development.
